Guilt

Guilt.mp4

Every time you Place Order with Uber Eats for $53.17 you’re sure to follow it up with thoughts of how you shouldn’t have done that and next time you’ll prepare better or meal prep so you don’t waste so much money and you’ll definitely organize your schedule to get to the grocery store tomorrow and cook at home like a good person does. It’s important, after all, to feel bad for taking advantage of a convenience that makes your life…or at least this moment…a little easier.

The sorceress knows you were taught guilt to keep you from your power. You were taught by other people who were taught the same thing for the same reason. The power of owning convenience. The power of having the funds to close the gap between your hunger (and your kids’ hunger) and when you can eat something deeply satisfying that you don’t have to prepare yourself.

The power to bend time and direct resources. The power to decide that your energy belongs somewhere else tonight. The power to move another human's time, labor, and skill to serve you (which actually increases their power to do the same in the world).

Guilt mistakes receiving for taking. The sorceress knows power multiplies when it's put into motion.

1. Guilt distracts from the power of your desire or choice. Your choices aren't neutral.

2. You choose what contains ease when your system needs safety, and what contains agency when your system needs autonomy.

3. When you haven't owned the power of your choice, guilt can turn into self-punishment: second-guessing, shrinking, apologizing, making yourself wrong, or abandoning the desire.

4. Once you own the power of your choice, guilt becomes useful information. Guilt can point toward a standard you've violated.

5. The standard gets to be examined. Ask: What standard did I violate? Then: Where did that standard come from?

6. Standards can belong to different identities.

If it's an old standard, guilt illuminates that you're outgrowing an identity.
If it's a standard belonging to the identity you're becoming, it can point toward repair, correction, or recommitment.

7. Then choose which identity gets authority. You're determining which standards you want governing your choices and which identity gets to lead.
Desire → Choice → Power → Guilt → Standard → Identity → Choice
